Albi the snake
Was thin as a rake
And Edee didn’t know what to feed ‘im
She skates to the vet
Says “save my pet”
But the doctor says “we’ll have to bleed ‘im
“No - wait a tick,
This snake’s anaemic
His scales are white as a sheet!”
Edee has qualms
The vet means to harm
Her Albi and beats a retreat
But the vet blocks the door
With a foot -no -a paw!
And looks hungrily at the reptile
From his beard -no -its fur
Out comes a purr
And he cracks a wide sharp-toothéd smile
Clearly a fake
The vet eyes the snake
Coiled round her neck like a noose.
Edee’s a fighter
But a good ten-stone lighter
Than the vet - an overqualified, giant mongoose
He lunges, she twists
And the mangoose(?) he missed
Constrained by his long white lab coat
But he rends all his clothes
And stands furry, exposed
And with a leap goes straight for the throat!
“Albi! Nooooooo!”
The snake sees its foe
And tastes danger with its forked tongue too
Then with a glint in its eyes
Albi uncoils and flies
Into some awesome snaky kungfu
Picture the scene:
Its like in a dream
Almost too difficult to describe
In fact, I’ll not write
This incredible fight
But I’m sure by now you’ve got the vibe.
In brief - the winner
Ate the loser for dinner
And hardly bothered to chew
In case it’s not plain
The mangoose was slain
And Edee even had a bite too.
With wheels at her heels
And snake at her neck
Edith jumps on her horse and rides
Off into the sunset
With her favourite pet
(And a horse at her bottom besides).
