You say you are autistic and I cannot disagree
You say the cleverest often are; I sense you mean to exclude me
I’m unphased by the insult, if you meant to be unkind
As I, unlike you, am wont to read those tricky social signs
What bothers me is the equivalence that you earnestly promote
And forgive me my ambivalence but you’re wrong to connote
That Autistic ergo clever; that one stands for all!
And forgive again if I lower the tone ‘cause that is frankly balls
Whenever I meet people, there will be some that I despise
And some I love regardless of their ability - dis or otherwise
You could argue its my failing that I haven’t the statistics
That I should seek out and mingle more: roam among autistics
And fine I accept I’ve not met them all - maybe a trifling amount
But that’s more than enough for me to make a reasonable account
That each was a person first - the diagnosis was in the composition
But didn’t define their Be and All - was merely an addition
And in that mix, smart and dumb, ditsy and astute
Because that’s what people are - and yes I’m being cute!
The shortest rebuttal to what you dogmatically assert
Is its the sort of sweeping statement that does less help than hurt
So if you’re sticking by it, I submit: you’re being thick
But if you meant it as an insult - alright you clever dick!
